OUR BREEDING HERITAGE

The Rosa-Lott Dam Line

Every dam line carries a story shaped by generations of breeding, individual horses and the vision of their breeders.

At the heart of our breeding heritage stands Rosa-Lott (Julio Mariner xx × Saluut), the foundation mare of our family’s breeding programme. Long before the introduction of the Maverick name, she laid the foundation for generations of horses that continue to shape our breeding today.

Through this maternal family, we preserve a legacy of character, athleticism and performance, connecting our earliest breeding activities with the future of Maverick Stables.

A family defined by character, athleticism and a legacy carried through generations.

THE FOUNDING MARE

Rosa-Lott

Rosa-Lott laid the foundation for our family’s breeding programme. Combining Thoroughbred influence with an established Dutch maternal family, she distinguished herself through her movement, conformation and character.

Her influence continues through the generations that connect our earliest breeding activities with Maverick Stables today.

THE BLOODLINES

The Origins of Rosa-Lott

Rosa-Lott’s pedigree brings together the refinement of Thoroughbred breeding and the established jumping bloodlines of the Holsteiner horse. Through Julio Mariner xx and Saluut, her pedigree unites two distinct breeding backgrounds, each with an important place in European sport horse breeding.

THE MATERNAL FAMILY

Breeding Family 1800

Rooted in historic Dutch breeding, family 1800 represents generations of mares whose descendants have contributed to jumping, dressage and eventing.

Through Rosa-Lott, this heritage has become an integral part of our own breeding history, connecting past generations with the future of Maverick Stables.

THE FAMILY HISTORY

Generations of Dutch Breeding

The history of breeding family 1800 is rooted in the historic Gelderland breeding population, which played an important role in the development of the modern Dutch Warmblood. Originally valued for their versatility, strength and suitability for different forms of work, these horses contributed to the foundation from which the modern Dutch sport horse emerged.

As breeding objectives evolved, successive generations were increasingly selected for qualities suited to equestrian sport. Within breeding family 1800, different maternal branches developed, each shaped by the breeding decisions of successive generations and the individual qualities of their mares.

Rosa-Lott’s direct maternal ancestry can be traced back to Uronetje, a daughter of Oran, born in 1955. Awarded the ster predicate, she represents an earlier generation of Dutch breeding, from a period in which the foundations of the modern sport horse were still developing.

Through her daughter Ironetje, by Eclatant, the family continued into the next generation. Born in 1967, Ironetje received the ster and preferent predicates, recognising her individual qualities and her contribution as a breeding mare. Her descendants established several branches of the family, including those developed through Tironetje, Hironetje, Faronetje, Rionetje and Luronetje. These mares contributed to the continuation of the maternal family, with subsequent generations represented in different equestrian disciplines.

Born in 1977, Tironetje, by Duc de Normandie, continued Rosa-Lott’s direct maternal line. She received the ster and prestatie predicates, the latter recognising the sporting achievements of her offspring. Through subsequent generations, the family developed further, with descendants represented in both jumping and dressage.

In 1981, Tironetje produced Zofia, a daughter of the Holsteiner stallion Saluut. Awarded the ster predicate, Zofia competed at 1.30 m in show jumping and became an important link in the continuation of this maternal family.

The combination of Zofia with Julio Mariner xx brought together two distinct breeding backgrounds. Through Saluut, Zofia carried established Holsteiner jumping blood, while Julio Mariner introduced direct Thoroughbred influence. In 1998, this combination produced Rosa-Lott, whose exceptional movement, conformation and subsequent breeding career would establish her importance within our family’s breeding programme.

Beyond Rosa-Lott’s direct maternal ancestry, breeding family 1800 developed through several other historical branches, including those associated with Garonetje, Laronetje, Vionetje, Gionetje and Wendaronette. Over time, these branches contributed to different Dutch and Belgian breeding programmes, producing breeding mares, sport horses and breeding stallions.

The family’s historical breeding influence is also reflected in two BWP stallions: Graaf van Wittenstein II, by L’Invasion, and Scipio, born in 1953, by Kurassier out of Garonetje. Their presence in the historical family records illustrates how these maternal branches contributed not only through successive generations of mares, but also through stallions that became part of Belgian Warmblood breeding.

The sporting achievements of the wider family demonstrate the different directions in which these maternal branches have developed. Among the jumping horses associated with the family is Netto, who achieved results at 1.40 m, while other branches have produced successful dressage and eventing horses.

One notable example is the dressage mare Toermalijn, a daughter of Gribaldi out of Lionetje, by Havidoff. Descending from a branch associated with Wendaronette, Toermalijn competed at Prix St. Georges/Intermediaire I level and received the elite, PROK and sport predicates.

Her daughter Kwartz Decadent Grey RS2, by De Niro, continued this sporting tradition, also competing at Prix St. Georges/Intermediaire I level. The achievements of these two generations illustrate how sporting ability can be represented across successive generations within a maternal branch.

The wider family has also been represented in international eventing through horses such as Gina van ‘t Bloemenhof, who competed at CCI3*-L level. Together with the jumping and dressage results recorded in other branches, these achievements demonstrate the versatility found within the historical family.

Although these horses share maternal origins, each branch has developed through its own breeding combinations, selection decisions and subsequent generations. Their achievements provide valuable insight into the wider family, while the direct maternal ancestry of Rosa-Lott tells the story of the generations that ultimately became part of our own breeding history.

From Uronetje and Ironetje to Tironetje, Zofia and Rosa-Lott, this maternal line reflects a rich history of Dutch horse breeding. Its significance extends beyond individual sporting achievements, encompassing the qualities of its breeding mares, the influence of its stallions and the continuation of the female line.

For Maverick Stables, this history is more than a record of past generations. Through Rosa-Lott, it became part of our own breeding story, a legacy that lives on through her descendants. Today, Prestige Maverick S carries this maternal line forward, connecting our family’s past with the future of our breeding programme.
