No two mares, foals or young horses are alike. Age, development, health, temperament and individual needs determine the care and guidance required at each stage of their lives.
At Maverick Stables, we combine daily observation with established routines, practical experience and the expertise of our trusted professionals. This allows us to adapt our care and management to each individual horse and its stage of development.
Whether guiding a mare through her breeding journey or establishing a solid foundation during the early years of a young horse’s life, health, welfare and long-term development remain at the heart of everything we do.
Every mare has her own individual journey. Her reproductive stage, breeding history, physical condition and individual needs determine the care and guidance she requires.
We provide guidance throughout the entire breeding process, from preparation, cycle monitoring and veterinary insemination to pregnancy, foaling and the important first weeks with her foal.
Throughout her stay, we monitor each mare daily, adjusting nutrition, exercise and management whenever necessary. For reproductive examinations, insemination and other veterinary procedures, we work closely with our trusted veterinarian.
During the foaling period, we combine careful preparation with attentive monitoring. Following birth, our attention extends to both mare and foal, closely observing their first important milestones to ensure a calm and well-supported start together.
The early years of a horse’s life establish an important foundation for its future. During this period, movement, social interaction, nutrition, everyday experiences and consistent guidance all contribute to physical and mental development.
Our approach to rearing is centred on each individual young horse. Young horses grow up in small, carefully selected groups, with ample opportunity to move, play and learn from one another.
By monitoring growth, physical condition, behaviour and overall development on a daily basis, we can adjust our management whenever necessary. Nutrition, group composition, housing and individual care are continuously reassessed as each young horse develops.
Alongside their physical development, young horses gradually learn the essential practical skills they will need later in life. Calm, clear and consistent handling helps them develop confidence while preserving their independence and natural curiosity.
Our aim is not to accelerate development, but to establish a strong foundation for a healthy, confident and capable horse.
