Zapatero VDL

Zapatero’s mother is the elite and sports mare Manieta, who jumped internationally under the name Brugman’s Princes and became National Champion of 4-year-old show jumping horses. Grandmother is the performance mare Anita, who is, among other things, mother of the international show jumping horse Orlando.

As a 3-year-old, Zapatero was reserve champion of the stallion inspection. As a 4-year-old he became reserve champion of the stallion competition. As a 7-year-old he was a finalist in the VION Cup and 2nd in the final of the Youngster Tour in Geesteren.

Under Jessica Kürten, Zapatero won the Grand Prix of the KWPN stallion inspection and the VHO trophy. They achieved a number of impressive international results, including: 6th GP Ebreichsdorf, 7th in the Salzburg Championat, 8th GP Oliva and 10th in the World Cup qualification Zurich. Under Robert Vos, Zapatero won the Medium Tour final of Wierden, won the CSI de Wolden and finished 7th in the ‘Championat von Kiel’.

Padinus

At the age of three, Padinus was selected for the performance test. In ‘s-Hertogenbosch he was invited to the championship inspection, where he was placed in eighth place. In the spring test, Padinus was referred to the autumn examination, but was not submitted for that. Approval followed four years later after he was appointed for the abbreviated examination through the follow-up examination. The stallion had already come into the spotlight through sport. “During the spring examination as a three-year-old, rideability was a point of attention for Padinus, but this was also at the expense of basic gaits. He was approved as an eight-year-old and received good marks for the jumping components,” says Arie Hamoen, chairman of the stallion inspection committee. Padinus received an 8.5 for impression and ability and an 8 for technique and talent. This put him at the top of the jumping stallions.

Padinus was trained by Eddie Brinkman and jumped at ZZ level. “Padinus himself jumped with a lot of scope and caution, his attitude was something of a point of attention. In that respect he could have had a little more of his father Heartbreaker, who himself excelled with a top attitude. Padinus was often a bit tense and therefore sometimes became a bit tight. Furthermore, he breeds like a real Heartbreaker son and passed on just a little more length to his offspring than his father. The Padinus offspring all have a lot of charisma, beautiful heads and often some markings. They jump with good reflexes, are quick and careful. Padinus definitely had a lot of quality and we wanted to train him for international sport, but at that moment he crashed.”
